History

Originally built in 1974 and located on Mt Taylor. It was known as the Crossfield Road Youth Hall or the Mt Taylor Hall. It had been used for emergency housing and was at one time co-ordinated by the local religious Brothers at a cost of $8 per week. In 1976 it was used to accommodate exhange students from the Chatham Islands.
In 1980 there was a recommendation to move the hall to improve the visual image of Mt Taylor (a former Pa site) and to improve the safety for children as they had to cross the road to get to the park. It was decided to build a new centre rather than move the existing hall as it had come to the end of its economic life and the new centre would be purpose built as a community centre. Also the costs of relocating versus rebuilding were comparable.
The original committee that ran the Mt Taylor Hall became Crossfield Park Community Centre Inc and named the new facility Crossfield Park Community Centre. It was built in 1986 and commenced operating as a hall for hire in 1997.
